Congressman Tim Ryan grew up in Niles, Ohio, where he currently resides. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Political Science and later received his law degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire in 2000. In his last year of law school he won election to become one of the youngest State Senators in Ohio history.

Congressman Ryan was first sworn in as a member of Congress on January 7, 2003 and was recently elected to his fifth term serving the people of Ohio’s 17th District and the country. In 2006, Tim was chosen to join the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, which is responsible for nominating Democratic Members to serve on House Committees and advising the Speaker on policy.

Congressman Ryan serves on the House Appropriations Committee, and is assigned to the subcommittees that provide funding for the departments of Defense, Labor, Health and Education. His primary focus remains on the economy and quality-of-life of his Northeast Ohio congressional district, and he champions efforts in making college more affordable and improving the health and well-being of American families and children.

Tim makes time for regular mindfulness retreats, and recently remodeled an empty utility closet in the Congressional office building in order to make daily meditation possible during busy legislative sessions. In addition to a heavy schedule of business for the 17th district and the country, Tim finds time to attend and present keynote speeches about the applications of mindfulness in America at conferences, professional meetings, and retreats across the United States.
